Raising Blue Rec video of excavation installed (with Cabinets of Renegotiation in the background) at the Old Grammar School, Coventry, for Coventry Biennial of Contemporary Art 2023 ...a shortcut through the brambles.
I recorded the excavation at a low angle on my tablet, phone and field recorder as I was interested in capturing changes to the ground surface as we removed the brick guard. When I viewed it back, I was particularly intrigued to see all the small creatures moving about in the moss, and was struck by the difference in scales of them and their environment to our massive feet. It seemed to me, that although we were all completely absorbed with our activities in the same space, it was the discrepancy in our scales that produced the lack of awareness of each other. So I edited some of this footage together and used it in the Blue Rec installation.
